An interesting analysis that looks 'behind' the presentation on Apple Intelligence. In fact, despite the fact that the technological level according to many analysts is still not comparable to that of other competitors on the AI theme, Apple has always moved carefully in the acquisition of startups on the topic and in my opinion it will implement its strategy which has always been applied but slightly turn on AI: focus on the consumer. The issue of privacy and app integration is in fact a shift especially for the user, and could also be rewarded thanks to the strategic asset of its community that many other competitors lack. Thanks for the analysis.

Apple is lagging in AI research and development, and now it resembles Microsoft in integrating AI from other manufacturers. If they can develop some innovative applications on their own in the future, they might have a chance to win; otherwise, they will just be mediocre, releasing minor features to prevent their stock from falling too much.

We’ll have to see how Apple Intelligence (the part not sent off to OpenAI) looks when it’s more broadly launched. If they have all of this fanfare but end up with terrible internal models, then the power shifts again. Based on all accounts and WWDC, a lot of things are handled by Apple’s internal models and not OpenAI. As said though, I wouldn’t necessarily count them out. They’ve done a lot of acquisitions of pretty good teams, and naturally Apple is less interested in publishing and showing things in public vs Google, Microsoft, or Meta.

Looking forward to seeing it, currently, Apple Intelligence is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro. Those who want to use AI will wait for the fall launch event to change their phones.
