I have two things for folks this week: a guest post I did on OpenAI’s valuation, and a proposed panel on AI at SXSW (please vote for us—it’ll take about a minute to make an account and upvote!).
Is OpenAI Overpriced?
I wrote about OpenAI over at FinanceTLDR and how I’d go about estimating its valuation. I’d recommend checking it out if you’ve ever wondered how companies get the valuation they do.
Vote for my panel for SXSW’s Conference
I’ve gotten together with some great people in AI to propose an event for SXSW, a major conference for technology and the arts (mainly music, but you probably won’t find me singing on stage!) that happens every year in Austin, Texas.
Our panel made it through the first round of applications, and as part of their process they hold a public vote for people to choose which events they want to see happen.
Note, you do have to make an account (to prevent cheating on votes), but it shouldn’t take more than a minute or so total.
You can check out our panel and vote here: https://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/149806
If you have a minute to spare I’d really appreciate your vote!
The panel we’re proposing is called Most AI Startups Are Doomed, a continuation of one of the most popular posts on Weighty Thoughts to date. Especially as we’re seeing more signs of the AI bubble bursting, let’s talk about what happens afterwards.
Panel Speakers:
James Wang, General Partner, Creative Ventures
Chidi Nwankpa, Co-Founder, GlobalHealth AI
Sergei Polevikov, Co-Founder and AI Advisor, WellAI
Brandon Basso, Senior Director of Simulation, Cruise
Great piece on the OpenAI valuation. Also, SXSW vote done!
