2024 was quite a year. It was certainly not the “end of AI hype” that some people had predicted. If anything, it massively accelerated the pace of the industry’s development, between the rise of o1 and o3’s “reasoning” (I’ll probably do a longer post on this sometime soon) and massive new power projects announced like Microsoft’s Three Mile Island reopening and Meta seeking a 4 GW nuclear plant.
To go over this all, I have a guest post on one of the most popular (and comprehensive) AI newsletters on Substack, .
If you want a sneak peak, here’s the high level. Definitely go read the whole post to get the details though—it’s a bit of a whirlwind tour for an incredibly packed year.

Reasoning: A New Dimension of AI Scaling—and Cost

If you found the content interesting, I’d definitely suggest checking out other articles in AI Supremacy, as well as
’s other publications. He somehow is able to keep up a firehose of information and content, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re trying to keep up with everything going on in the field.Upcoming Book Pre-Sale News
If you’ve been following along, this news is definitely old hat, but I’m excited to say that the book pre-sale/crowdfunding is going to be this month. I’ll give more details on how this works soon.
If you’re really anxious to find out more, and to join (probably) a pre-pre-sale, sign up to follow my book updates here.
That’s where I’ll be sharing details first! (… because you’ll have opted in—I’ll have other goodies like sharing more of the inside process on book-writing)
Creative Ventures Newsletter and Q&A
I’ve recently gotten the feedback that some readers would like to know more about the VC side of things specifically.
Well, Creative Ventures does have a newsletter.
My colleague, Kulika Weizman, PhD in Microbiology from UC Berkeley, previously a researcher at the Energy Biosciences Institute and Cate Lab, Co-Founder of a synthetic biology company, and now General Partner at CV just did a newsletter on Biodata and how we can use AI to learn from 100-year-olds.
Separately, are others also interested in more details about VC or startups or anything else? If so, comment on this post with either questions or topics you’d be interested in.
I’ll still have to consider where it fits in (here or just as future posts on the CV newsletter) but it’ll be helpful to know what people are interested in.
My latest interest has been in the intersection of AI for medicine and investing. 2024 was definitely a year where I learned a lot from your brilliant writing, James! Please never stop. And obviously, in 2025, everyone is eagerly waiting to get their hands on your book.
Hey James, I’ve sent you a DM with a great proposal for your newsletter. Would love for you to take a look when you get a chance!
