It can help us play paralegal and reduce some legal costs.

Like other functionality, it’s gotten less useful in the last 18 months. It used to cite case law, then got progressively dumber/stingier.

It was enough breadcrumbs to represent myself in an informal custody trial when I ran out of funds for counsel, advising me to seek counsel all the way, as if it were a legitimate option for most people.

A very interesting article. What about small businesses who ask ChatGPT to write a contract for them thinking they are saving money because they don't have to ask an attorney. In my experience, that's very dangerous. Would you agree?

It’s a risk calculus. Between two friends that need something slightly more serious than a pinky swear, it’s likely ok. For a business contract of any import, I’d say throwing it into ChatGPT is absolutely a terrible idea. It’s the concept of hallucinations that Devansh and I talked about—basically, you can’t trust it to do things in a precision way, since accuracy is “fuzzy.”
